AMEN !!! You have many gifts, Thank You for sharing them with us. Especially today, right now. I was one of the distant observers a half mile from the finish line, making my way up, cheering on the runners after a beautiful day of watching the Red Sox, little did I know the events to come. We are America, We are Boston, We are Strong, We are Boston Strong. We are resilient. And I thank YOU for all you did to keep us STRONG, and continue to do. Today, I am grateful for you, your service, and your words. God Bless You. Gail O'Brien

I am with you! It seems to me that they should at least require criminal background checks at gun shows. I don't think they do that now, but I know when you buy a gun at a guns shop you have to fill out all kinds of paperwork. When you pick up your concealed weapons permit they fingerprint you here in Washington State. They should do that everywhere.

Thanks for taking a stand on this.

You absolutely are NOT alone on this!! As usual, both sides are refusing to make compromises or bring reasonable solutions to the table which results in no progress. I can tell you that in Texas where I live we do have the common sense to allow our judge’s discretion in issuing a no firearms possession or purchase clause against respondents in protective orders on a case by case basis - and you know how Texans are about our firearms rights. As a long time employee at a police agency I can tell you that more often than not protective orders will include this no firearms clause. Of course this doesn't stop respondents from illegally obtaining weapons if they are determined but at least it gives police some tools to help protect victims.

"For God’s sake, someone tell me I’m not the only one disgusted by those at both ends who would fiddle while our Rome burns."

Well, I am not God, but I can tell you I am disgusted by this issue. I believe the NRA (which I am an active member of), might be coming from a place of fear. They may be thinking "what if we concede to this; then what will we be held accountable to concede to down the road".

I am pro gun ownership, for hunting and for personal safety. I believe this issue may be worked out with the NRA. NRA has the responsibiity to lobby for gun owners, but not irresponsibe gun owners.

A way to circumvent this block by NRA, might be to inact a new law whereas "threatening with intent to harm with a gun=all guns get taken away from the person threatening".

I took my sons guns away from him when he became irrational with a brain disease. Until he fully recovered, the guns were removed from our house. NRA- Do the same. Please take guns out of the hands of those that are a threat. What if the NRA's CEO's daughter was being threatened by her ex with death by gun? What would he do. Where would they turn to? This could happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. We must unify and come to a responsible decision.

I need to ad. Even if the gun is taken away from the threat, they may use other objects to injure or worse, cause fatality. More murders happen by knives and other weapons than guns.
